HOW IT STARTED
Our story
Our story began with three people whose backgrounds were different, but whose vision for homebuilding turned out to be remarkably similar.
Two of our founders came together while earning their master’s degrees in finance. One brought a background in construction, with a particular understanding of quality materials and finishes. The other brought an aptitude for numbers—combining finance with an interest in thoughtful home design.
When they met our third founder, whose experience included demographic and regional studies and land acquisition, the three quickly discovered something more important than their complementary skill sets: a shared passion for building homes and a common belief about what a home should protect.
For us, a home is both one of a family’s greatest investments and the place where much of llife happens. We believe those two things are deeply interconnected.
Protecting the investment that is a home should also mean protecting the family and the lives within it.
That belief led us to ask a simple question: Can we build a better home?
Our search brought us to a building material first developed in 1923: autoclaved aerated concrete, or AAC.
AAC offered many of the qualities we believed a modern home should provide—a structure that could be stronger, more resilient and more efficient, while contributing to a home that is safer and healthier for the people living inside it.
Just as importantly, those benefits didn't have to mean abandoning thoughtful design or making a well-built home unattainable.
Our different backgrounds brought us to the table. Our shared belief gave us a reason to build.
And today, that belief remains at the center of every home we create: build better, protect what matters, and create homes designed for the lives lived within them.

The name Surgo means "to rise," and that idea shapes everything we do. Every decision we make is driven by a simple question: Would we build it this way for our own family? If the answer is no, we don't do it.
